Woman Kept Granddaughter Locked in a Closet When Fire Broke out

Fire broke out in culprit’s home while granddaughter was locked in.
An Atascadero woman, 43-year-old Tammi Underwood, was arrested in Roseburg, Ore. March 26 for allegedly locking her 9-year-old granddaughter in a closet for days at a time without, water, food or bathroom breaks. In the meanwhile, a fire irrupted in the house. Crews responded around 3 a.m. to the home on Carrizo Road where Tammi Underwood had been living with her granddaughter. She rushed home to find that the fire had already burned through the roof of the two-story home.
It took 25 firefighters about two hours to contain the blaze, which was especially difficult given void areas created during several remodels of the home.
The convicted grandma, who was charged with criminal child endangerment, is expected to be deported sometime this month. Where are we going these days? Every parent and sensible human being is concern with the raise of these recurring facts of child abuse.
Child abuse is reported on an average of every 10 seconds and three children die every day as a result of such abuse.
This is alarming. No later than a week ago all the media where focus on a 73-year-old
Austrian who confessed that he kept his daughter, Elisabeth Fritzl, locked up in a dark cellar for 24 years and that he fathered seven children by her. And it is very similar to
the case of Natascha Kampusch, who spent eight years locked up in a windowless cell before escaping in August 2006.
Authorities must be more aware and careful of children security issues. People also should collaborate more and report any suspicious child disappearance in their neighborhoods.
Many have been traumatized by abuse, neglect and unstable home environments.  Providing children with a safe and secure environment is essential to their welfare.
